Tournon d'Agenais
  • The hilltop Bastide of Tournon d'Agenais dates to 1257! Maison Roux is built into the ramparts and provides stunning views of the surrounding valley. Tournon has a butcher, baker, grocery store, four restaurants, hairdresser, gas station, bank with ATM, and quiet, friendly neighbors. A wide path circles the upper village for your morning walks and the central square hosts numerous fairs, including jazz, dancing and a small Friday night outdoor market in July and August.

Relish your time in the land of foie gras, black truffles, and the famous 'Black Wine' of Cahors. A week or two at Maison Roux makes for the perfect holiday!

Plan Your Trip...
Weather
  • The weather here is gentle with brilliant blue skies. June through October has warm and sunny days with temperatures between 60F and 90F. It rarely rains during these months. Heat waves and humidity are rare and short-lived. April and May are a little cooler with occasional rainy days, and day temps ranging from 50F to 75F. Winter is generally temperate, with rare dustings of snow, a lot of rain and fog, interspersed with days of sunshine and temperatures between 35F and 65F.
Getting There
  • Fly into Charles de Gaulle or Orly airport in Paris and take a one hour connection to Toulouse. Then, drive 90 minutes to Maison Roux.  Alternatively, drive directly from Paris (7 hours). You can also take the TGV (bullet train) from Paris to Bordeaux or Agen for a delightful 3 hour ride and pick up your car at the train station. A rental car is essential to enjoy the area. Reserve an automatic transmission if you can't drive a stick shift and do it well in advance of your trip for the best selection/rates.
Location
  • Seven hours south of Paris, two hours southeast of Bordeaux, and 90 minutes northwest of Toulouse, Maison Roux sits at the heart of the stunning, green Lot River Valley, just southeast of the Dordogne. Three hours from the Mediterranean, the Pyrenées Mountains, and the Atlantic Ocean, the region is a sensorial and relatively undiscovered delight for even the most discerning and well-traveled connoisseurs of France.
Scheduling Your Holiday
  • Maison Roux is available by the week exclusively to our Charity Auction winners, from Saturday to Saturday, year-round, although it is best enjoyed April thru September. Check-In is from 3-5 PM, although prior arrangements can be made for later arrivals. Check-Out is on Saturday by 10 AM. A fully-refundable security deposit of $1500 is required for all guests. For availability and other questions, please contact us. We look forward to welcoming you!

Language and Money
  • There are so many English-speaking residents in the region, being 'French-challenged' is not a problem. Locals are welcoming and go out of their way to be helpful. You will need some phrases, so pack a dictionary or use ours. Smiles, patience, 'please' and 'thank you' are expected. The Euro is the currency. Bring your "Smart Chip" ATM card, Visa, and Mastercard. AMEX is not accepted. Tournon has an ATM, but get cash at the airport for tolls and incidentals.

What To Bring

  • Plan your packing for a variety of weather conditions and check the local weather before you come. Layers are best, along with a raincoat/umbrella, sturdy, low-heeled shoes for walking, and a jacket or shawl for evenings. Leave the high heels at home! The region is casual and ties are a rarity, but the French are a bit more formal than Americans. Women rarely wear shorts, and skirts, dresses, and pants are the preferred attire, but it's your holiday, so wear what makes you comfortable.
