Weather cooperated - with beautiful sunsets and one outstanding "light show" compliments of a lightening storm one evening. Everything was magical. "Last summer, nine friends of mine and I came from different countries around the world to enjoy each other's company at Maison Roux. Other than seeing photos of the house, having some very helpful communications with the owner, and a little on-line research, none of us really knew what to expect. What we found exceeded our expectations in every way (particularly impressive given that this is a pretty discerning, well-traveled crowd that doesn't please easily...). To find such a terrific, classically French house in a charming hill-town village in a region that offers a richness of local markets, wineries and art is something quite rare. Even rarer, is finding accommodations that more than pleased all 10 of us! When we weren't out at the market, exploring caves or driving through the countryside, most of us gathered in the kitchen where we spent many splendid hours preparing dinner, sipping wine and savoring the results of our labor. Others simply relaxed and enjoyed the view out the large living room windows. Everything at Maison Roux was top quality--from the rooms themselves to the fixtures and furnishings throughout. All kept in immaculate condition. What impressed us most was how comfortable we al felt and how "homey" the setting was. As a group of 10, we never felt crowded and could always find a place to "perch". The village itself is lovely - with spectacular views to the hillsides, a traditional and quaint town square complete with its own bell tower, and a wonderful little corner café that offers the quintessential cappuccino. The nearby village restaurant not only offers delicious meals, but its neighborhood atmosphere and highly accommodating staff make you feel right at home.
